Put a new clutch in my Farmall C, and timing was off and had to change the firing order to get it to run. Why would the firing order be off? All we did is split the tractor and put in a new clutch. Could a faulty governor change the timing order? The C ran fine before we put the new clutch in.

What firing order do you have now - should be 1-3-4-2 with #1 being the cylinder closest to the radiator and the #1 spot on the distributor cap should be at about the 1:00 position when looking at it. No way
the clutch has any affect on timing. If you had the governor off the tractor maybe the gear driving the distributor was put back different if it was taken out but on a distributor the engine would have had to
be moved which could have happened when working on the clutch. If you have a mag then not putting the gear back on correct would mess up the timing regardless of moving the engine.

The firing order has to be the same, the position of #1 on the cap can be
anywhere, as long as the rotor is pointing to your #1.

What, specifically, did you have to do?

Also go back and make sure that all four cylinders are firing. I have lost count of the number of tractors I've seen firing on two cylinders, with the owners bragging and crowing about how smooth it's running and how powerful it is.
