IH 300 Utility

New here and first post.

Been looking for a tractor possible found one for a reasonable price.

However I was told that it doesn't run, they can take out the spark plugs and the engine turns, but when placed back in they are unable to turn it. They said and i quote " He thinks he flooded it but doesn't have the tools to fix it, and find out." and "It just turns over if plugs are taken out. It was running before he forgot to turn it off and he thinks it just flooded." also "He forgot to shut the fuel off."

What could possible be wrong with this tractor.

Would it be worth $600?

Yes 600 is a steal. the battery is probably so drained it can't crank it with the plugs in. Buy it, change the oil and filter, charge (or new charged
battery) and always turn off the fuel. Jim

If the tires are half way good and it does not look like it has been beaten on all it life $600 is cheap but if it doesn't have power steering they do tend to steer hard.
If you get ti fill the cylinders with ATF and let it sit a day or so be sure to put the plugs back in then pull the plugs handspring it over to clear the ATF out of the cylinders. Doing that will lube the cylinders up and free sticking rings

Unless you need low profile you will get tired of straddling the hump. Utilities harder to work on many things than row crop model.

It would have to have something major for some much liquid to be in the cylinders it won't turn over with the plugs in it. If you are concerned take the plugs out and move each piston up to top dead center and
look in the spark plug hole. Is it a 6 or 12 volt system. If its still 6 volt the system could be in bad enough shape it won't crank the tractor with any resistance on the cylinders. If its a 12 volt could
just be a bad battery. Might want to ask if it has ever had a loader on it. Loaders tend to tear up the steering over time, especially if its manual steering. I have a 300U that has manual steering and once
had a loader on it so I know how it works. If its over all in good shape, tires, etc then $600 sounds good to me, even if you have to put a few bucks in it to get it running.

I plan on checking it out tomorrow before i make a decision on it. Mostly its going to be used to clean up my place I have 36 acres that have became overgrown since I was a child. I have some hills and a row crop just wouldn't be suited for those.

Just to give everyone an idea of the person that is selling the tractor and how much they know. (I know some not a lot not making fun of them just giving everyone an idea.)

I asked if it had the IH quick hitch or had been converted to 3 point hitch

Their response "I don't know what that is I just know you can hook implements to it."

simple if it will turn over with plugs out then not with plugs in it sure
needs a battery charged or cables cleaned or what ever the problem is battery
and cables grounds and even the starter itself easy fix

Assuming it's not an easy fix what kind of cost would I be looking at if I had to rebuild the engine?

From 2600 dollars to about 1000. The low number is if you do the labor, and have usable parts with a rebuild kit and good success. But an engine that
is free to rotate is not going to be toast, so don't put numbers to it yet. I believe it is a battery or connection issue. I am an IH 350U owner. Jim
