Leaky Gas Cap Farmall H

Drove my Farmall H yesterday. Runs great but why does gas splash out of my gas tank cap? Should there be a gasket or is there an improved cap design that does not leak when the gas splashes around?
Thanks, Kevin

There is a cork gasket under the gas cap. Replace it and your splash problems may be over. Your CaseIH dealer or some after market source should be able to
help you out.

All of the letter series Farmalls do this if the tank is filled more than half full or so. You can get a
free replacement from Case/IH which is a much taller cap.
Or you may have a problem with your original cap. I'm just saying they all did that and thats the reason
Case/IH is replacing them fee on tractors 70+ years old.

Search ihgascaps.com There is a replacement cap available by mail. the site will give specific details. You will need the
serial number. Jim

Sometimes the neck itself gets beat up from the weight of a gas nozzle and hose hanging from it.

Take a look at that, as well. I have used a smaller Channel Lock pliers and pinched various scraps of metal against the lip and straightened it out the best I could. "Back in the day" a tool was available for dealers to straighten them out.

Exactly. If indeed the neck is messed up, a new cap will not fix it.

I just put a gasket--ring on the 1066 filler
cap the other day.
It was one we got several years ago for the
1440 & 1460 combines. You might try the IH
dealer to see if they are still available.

Take your cap along to compare.

The gas cap arrived, yesterday 12-Aug. It took awhile, actually I forgot about it and didn't know what was in the package until I opened it up.

I have one of those tools to straighten the neck.
Works pretty well.
