Bolt problem on a BN

I'm in the process of changing the transmission oil seal on the right side of my BN and hit a problem with a bolt. Previous owner had put on a 3 pit hitch and welded a spacer to the cross bar that the swinging drawbar attach to and bolted it to the bottom of the axle tube. He used the spacer as the swivel point for the 3 point hitch arms. Problem is I need to disconnect it from the axle tube and one of the bolts is too close to the part used for the 3pt hitch swivel to get anything other than an open end wrench onto.I can't budge it with that type of wrench. The other bolt I could get a socket onto and it took a piece of pipe on a breaker bar to move it so the bolts are tight. Is there anything other than a torch that might work on this thing. I can't think of anything but thought I would ask first before I do something I'm sure to regret. It was pretty clever the way the hitch and hydraulics were added to the tractor but it makes working on the tractor a real pain as all the add on parts are in the way of doing anything. If I had a drawbar I would cut the spacers off but I haven't seen a drawbar for a BN for sale yet.

sounds like maybe a crowsfoot socket would help you.

Tubing wrenches might work, they are tougher than a crow's foot. Jim

i had to look and see what you meant. i have never heard them called that, always know them as line wrenches. as for use on brake and gas lines .

Also called Flare nut wrenches in this area. They get a lot better grip on a bolt head, especially if they are 6 point.

Jim - thanks for the info - glad I asked. I've never heard of this wrench before but it might work. I will see if I can get one - its a 15/16 head.

Agree like the old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words"

Sometimes trying to fix what someone else cobbled up can be a major challenge! Without seeing it very hard to make suggestions.

Might have to get a bit aggressive and resort to cutting head off with a cut off wheel in a 4.5 inch grinder or maybe fighting in there with a hack saw. Just try to put any damage on the parts you might be scrapping and not on the castings of the tractor.

If all you can get on it is a open end wrench, you wont get a line wrench on it. They slip on like and boxed end wrench. If you can do that, then you dont need a line wrench.

Might be able to tack weld a sacrificial 15/16 open end.

I was also thinking of something along that line of attack.

This is one of the reasons see a picture would be very helpful!

Just use one from a B CUT 8IN and weld

When you get the existing bolt out you could replace it with an Allen head bolt, they you wouldn't have this problem again.

Weld a 3/4 nut to the 15/16 head and you will have room for a wrench or socket
