Electrical Issues on Super A

Weak battery that is in the marginal range on load testing. Showed 6.2v after overnight charge. Started the tractor OK, loaded the tractor for 30 minutes mowing damp grass with a Woods belly mower. Checked the battery at fast idle with my HF volt meter. 5.9 ~6.1volts.
Replaced voltage regulator last week. Polarized the generator and it was showing 6.8v at fast idle and 7.3v when load tested. I have a heavy duty battery disconnect on my negative cable going to the starter on the positive grounded tractor.
My question is this==== When I use the disconnect when I leave the tractor and then return weeks later and turn the disconnect back on do I need to repolarize the generator? Is it possible that I have damaged the voltage regulator?
I plan to replace battery in the morning, repolarize the gen, and do away with the disconnect and hopefully get a good 6.5~7.1 voltage at fast idle.
Sorry for the long post. I look forward to your advice. Don

Generators that were charging do not need polarization. (gen tab on the regulator, to the bat tab) the field core iron is what is made into a polarized iron magnet. those field cores will stay magnetized for years. The only reason to do it is if it is new to the tractor to assure they are correct, and or if the generator was polarized for negative ground. The cutout relay in the regulator actually disconnects the generator from all other electrical parts when the tractor is shut off, so no need. Replace the battery and see if it charges. Jim

Thanks! Hope to get the battery replaced in the morning. The battery disconnect is not an issue then? I generally have one on all my equipment

Those sure reduce unauthorized use and child danger. Sometimes they can mask a battery drain that is tough to find. Jim

Could not wait till morning! Replaced with a fresh 6v battery. HF voltmeter showed 6.26v at rest. Tractor started well but at fast idle voltage dropped to 6.19v. Ammeter showed significant discharge when lights were turned on. Obviously, no sign of positive charging
Bottom two wires on rt side of regulator could possibly be on the wrong terminals, but I doubt it. We have a reputable generator shop in town. I might trailer the tractor to them for a diagnosis? Thanks Again
