Because CNH are turds -part # ID?

Hi All,

Because CNH, in their infinite wisdom, decided to eliminate the part numbers and decriptions for all parts unless they stock, can anyone tell me the part number and description for #14?

This is the PTO diagram for a 1949 Farmall M.

PS - John Deere still lists parts whether they are in stock or not - of course.

I just noticed their parts list debacle last night. You can try Messicks.

As of last night they were still using the old list along with their enhancements showing stock links.

All this complaining about the new parts site.

What does the part number gain you? Salvage yards don't catalog their parts by the part number.

You: "I need this thingamabob for the PTO on my M."
Salvage Guy: "We got a dozen M's on the yard. Head on back and see if you can find one with the part you need."
You: "Thank you kindly!"

And many aftermarket parts use the IH part number. I gave up trying to verify the ignition coil part number for my 140 yesterday & took a chance on 396547R93 from Tractor Supply. It is working fine, but I could not find the number on the parts list quickly to verify.

The illustration numbers are not the same, but the part numbers should be, except for anything starting with AP, which is Australian Part Number - equivalent, but not always identical to U.S. parts. I can send a copy of the AM book if you need. E-mail is open via Modern View. Not sure about Classic View

Maybe not but it's still nice to have the description as some of the old illustrations tend to be on the crude side. It helps to know if part #5 is a bushing or just a spacer.

It also helps when using the parts breakdown to explain the operation of something to someone who has not taken the component apart yet.

Sure if I was only going to be concerned with say the BN I own having my personal copy of the parts list would be good enough. But if I'm trying to help someone with a tractor of a model I don't have being able to refer to a good parts breakdown with full descriptions can be handy as heck.

As someone who pulled wrenches professionally for 45 years on heavy equipment I can often tell more about how something is built and operates just by looking at a good parts book than you sometimes get from a description or operation section of the service manual!

I have to wonder if it took more time and money to go through all those parts sheet and delete the part numbers, quantities and description than simply putting a NLA next to the part number to indicate "No Longer Available".

I like having the parts manual in front of me and have bought them for all my old Farmalls. I've used the parts diagrams at Messicks but its not always simple to find 70 plus year old equipment on modern
tractor web sites.

Problem is it appears that Messicks uses the same parts info as Case IH. in other words if not a currently available part it does not show online.

One example of why I would like to have all including obsolete part numbers shown is if say I needed an intake rocker arm for my BN. They are not shown in the Case IH online prats book. If I could see the part number that it originally used I could simply check a few other tractors to see if they used the same part number rocker, say a Super C or an AV?

Sure someone here probably can answer that question but it might take a day or two for them to see the posting of the question and reply!

I don't recall if you had posted about the lack of CaseIH part number support or not. I had responded to a couple of other posts that the info can still be looked up on the AVspare website. Don't know that I would order from them. They're an ad infested mirror site. However..... if you feel courageous enough to jump first & let us know how it goes..... Lol!

I left you a link to their "M" page.

M Parts....

PTO shifter shaft and lever, part number 67060DX. Punched the number up on messicks and got $164 but no stock. Looked up by tractor on the site and they changed the site so it's not found. Unless new old stock is found a used one should be easy to find.

Hi Barnyard,

😀 I wish I could do that - if I had a
tractor graveyard near me I prolly would
have been living there the last week 😁.

Unfortunately, the nearest one, as far as I
can tell, is over 300 miles away.

Tried google search with no luck, even put
a post up here to see if anyone knew of a
yard close to me - all came back well over
a few hundred miles away.

Sadly, I even called the nearest couple of
them thinking I could make a run and stock
up on stuff, if needed (one trip and get
lots of parts) and the convo was more like
😊

Me: Hi, you have this dodad for an M, 400
or 806?

Them: dunno, you can come by and look.

Me: Would love to come by and will make the
300 mile trip if I can grab a bunch of
needed parts, just would need to know the
trip isn't in vain, ya know?

Them: I can you back (never did)

Them: I am not gonna look, come by if you
want

Them: I dunno if we have the part but we
do have those tractors, but up to you, your
gamble

😔

Hi,

Yeah, I did see the avspare reply and checked out their website but was reslly tough to navigate.

I didn't have the direct link you just sent so will try that out, thank you.

Every other thing I tried on their website when searching under Farmall M seemed to bring back a giant list of tons of parts without a way to sort.

Will try again and if can find something, might bite the bullet and give them a go.

Will report back if I do 😀.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Been going around and around on grabbing
parts manuals for the 400, JD A, M, 806, H
etc - boy that adds up quick 😀.

Plus it seems there are different service
manuals, parts manuals and some have netter
info than others?

Noticed there exists a specific M/MD manual
that is supposed to be tops but haven't
seen one yet.

And think also just and engine manual and
tranny manual and clutch manual etc.

Whew, lots of manuals 😀

Thanks D,

Yeah, I see that SadFarmall included a pic
from his manual so time to do some digging
to see if anyone has one for sale (part
that is) 😀

"Salvage yards don't catalog by part number"

I believe at least some do. But it's more likely they do if they are salvaging only one
make.

Hi SadFarmall,

Checked modern view and classic and seems
the email option is not available (under
the area were it often says "email" yours
says "no email".

If sending a pdf is something you are still
open to doing, let me know.

Thanks,

CnB

Hey, I found one listed at Rock Valley tractor parts. Did a parts search through Tractorhouse. Scroll down their front page & look for "FARM EQUIPMENT ATTACHMENTS, COMPONENTS, DISMANTLED MACHINES & PARTS SEARCH". Just type the number in the box thad D Slater left in his post & you will have the info you need.

Mike

Bean counters at work again! If you don't sell X number of parts in Y amount of time, you can't continue to stock that part because you have too much of your capital tied up in inventory. Capital has to be fluid and continue to "turn" frequently or your not making anything on that capital investment and stockholders need profit. If they make big profit, my bonus gets bigger! (Just my humble opinion.)

that may be true for a 1 tractor wrecking yard  but I doubt any wrecking yard of any size is going to ship out parts with a vague description unless they want it shipped back . been there done thats and its also common on service calls when you arrive and its not even close to what they said on the phone
Bates Corp is a perfect example= copy and paste the part number D Slater gave in their search box and voila there it is! there is no way a large wrecker can operate on descriptions And while I had the D Slater part number copied I did a Google search and there it was many times
Also some aftermarket parts vendors who will remain nameless here  have their own part numbers like IHS** - replaces *****r91. How are you supposed to know if thats what you are looking for without checking the IH part number? There was absolutely no reason for CNH to remove those numbers and it was no doubt done by an IT person who has never had a wrench in their hands therefore had no idea how important the numbers can be!

also, often there is a serial number break and the parts are not interchangeable so the serial number along with the part number are very important

Not sure why e-mail not showing up; I have checked that it should be visible, at least in modern view and reset it. Let me know if it remains hidden.
SadFarmall

Well some of the yards use the numbers to list the reman and new or nos parts so then they are categorized by the part number and much easier to compare for usability or interchangeability. Like the 0656 and 66 series in the larger frame tractors all use the same relief valve for the hydraulics though there are 3 different pressure levels on them. Like 1500ish 2000 and a 2500 one. Now which one do you want. The part numbers separate them when looking at like All State Ag and such. Some of the reasons for wanting part numbers besides looking at the Manufacturers website.

Hi SadFarmall,

Huh, still no email showing.

Checked in classic view (says no email) as
well as in modern view (profile click shows
no email as well).

Tried sending a private message but that
option is disabled for all users per YT.

When I click on the "no email" it says the
user has either hidden it from view or has
it disabled...
