Modified 240

Was at an auction yesterday that had a Farmall 240 for sale. Serial number tag said it was a modified 240. What would have been done to the tractor to call it that on the serial number tag? Its the first 240 I
have seen up close but I didn't see anything that I thought looked different.

Stein auction?

It was most likely mounted in a Chisholm Ryder vegetable picker machine of some sort at one point in its life. 240's, 504's, and 656 hydros are some of the most common tractors used to power these vegetable pickers.

The tractor would have been sold to Chisholm Ryder as a "skid unit" with no wheels, no seat, and delivered on a pallet. There isn't anything different about the base tractor aside from the missing parts.

All you need are the correct parts to turn it back into a tractor. They did a pretty good job of it on this one. Usually you'll see some shortcuts taken.

Don't know if you made that auction back in the spring just before "lockdown" on 104/Ridge Road with the 656 hydro. It was the same deal, but they cobbled together the operator's platform with scrap steel instead of the correct parts.

It was the Stein auction. I didn't seen anything on the 240 that didn't look like a regular tractor so if it was converted back it looked complete to me. Was the 656 at the same auction that had the 504 hi
clearance build at a sprayer. That was pretty neat unit.

Wider cast rear axle housings and a wider front axle tube would be two differences from a regular 240

I've got a Super C and I was thinking the rear end of the 240 looked pretty wide for what I remembered on my C. Wasn't sure since there weren't side by side.
