Farmall M - one cylinder dry?

Hi All,

Rustred inspired me to check out the pistons on my M based on the compression numbers I was seeing (in the 130s, cold without wot, all within a few % of each other).

Turns out I do have stepped pistons - which is kinda cool.

Anywho, upon peeking into the cylinders, I noticed cylinder 2 was dry - like bone dry, while the other 3 were wet.

What could cause this and what should I check?

Or not worry about it?

I am doing valve adjustment as soon as can and have most everything pulled apart, so guess now is the time to do it.

Thanks!

I have to say, you are really overthinking all of this. If it runs good and does not smoke do worry about it. The compression will probably get better as you work it and things loosen up. Put a good 15W-40 detergent oil in it and work it hard for a few hours, keep it changed regular.
