IH 684 steering ram leak

I used to work at IH dealer 40 years ago and I remember a lot. But not fixing leaking steering ram
There is fluid leaking continuous from rod side of
Steering ram but a lot more leakage when full right
Hand lock
The tractor is 1980 684 and incorrect fluid has been put in system

Hi read the post at the link below, the 684 show be the same or similar.

Those have the lines on the ends of the cylinder if I remember right. Our 574 used to have the line come loose then leak by he o-ring. Most common was the line on the end of the shaft. That would also account for the leak being worse one way and not so the other.

Clean it up real good and see if it leaks the very end of the ram where the fitting goes in, or, if the leak is at the body where the ram goes in and out. If the leak is at the fitting, caterpillar guy has it. I've rebuilt at least one of those-not bad of a job. Mark.
