IH M - 450 cylinder head

We are taking a Farmall M gas motor apart. It should have had the #8060DC gasoline head on it but instead has cast# 70009C1 head which I believe was a late
replacement head from IH usually found on IH 450. Was this a direct bolt on replacement for the M or did they have to swap out some other parts as well? This
motor has flat top pistons in it. Would M&W pistons w/bumps on top work too? Any advice on this greatly appreciated!

M pistons with popup tops should all fit W/O interference. If the head or deck was shaved, or a high lift cam is installed an interferance check should be made with a head gasket it doesn't need to be assembled, just positioned with the studs, use modeling clay on the top of the piston where it is likely to hit, and turn the engine by hand. Can't say about the M&W, but 4-1/8 standard elevation SM fire crater piston humps will clear the head. Humps are higher than a standard elevation 400 or 450 fire crater piston.

It would take taller pistons then what i have used and a limpty stick with a way bigger lump on it and a lot of shaving of the block and head before you would even get close at turning 5 grand on a light spring would come into play.
