Have a gas Farmall 400 with power steering. Tractor has been apart for awhile, cant find info in service manuals either. Issue I'm having is where do I put the bearing cap (upper bolster) that sits against the steering worm bearing? If I tighten the cap up tight, it moves the steering motor towards the steering wheel. Which causes the input seal of the steering motor against the steering shaft support(also supports air cleaner, etc) If I loosen the bearing cap off, get clearance which Im assuming it needs. If I could remember how to post pictures, I would. As pictures are worth a 1000 words. Thanks for any help, Scott.

The coupler was the issue, was 1/4" of gap. Loosen all the bolts to move the motor ahead & now it doesn't touch the input seal anymore. Thanks for the help, didn't even look at that.

Isn't there a coupling in front of the power steering motor to loosen that will let the shaft move back some?

AFAIK, there is no "adjustment." The cap needs to be tight, or else it will fall out. The worm/sector alignment will be off as well.

Your steering shaft is too long, or things aren't slid together completely at the joints between your power steering motor and the steering shaft.

I agree. The bearing in the box is a deep groove heavy duty bearing that takes all the steering stress from the front wheels hitting rocks, and turning forces. It could be something as simple (to discuss) as bolster mounting bolts being assembled with all locational tolerance pushing rearward on the top of the casting, or a mount of the torque generator too far forward.
