Completely restored a 1955 Farmall International 100 minus the paint job. I've been working on it for a couple of years and just finished it up. I've been running the engine nearly every evening for about 4-8 minutes. Today, I took it out back to pull some playground equipment. It pulled the equipment just fine, governor kicked in and sounded good, then died. It starts but shuts off after a few seconds. It sounded like fuel starvation, but the coil was extremely hot. So I had an extra one, replaced it, and it ran much longer, but died again. It seems like a thermal issue. One of the coils was made in China and the other had no markings at all. I thought I saw a thread some time ago that those coils are trash. Where can I get a good reliable coil? Also, if it's thermal related, what else could it be?

I swapped out the original v Regulator with a new one I had before I read your last post. I get 1.5 to 2 volts at the regulator, however, I get 10 at the battery. Not sure if that's an issue or not. In any event, I drove it a good 10 minutes and the coil is only slightly warm. So, I'm going to assume the original regulator was bad.

6 volt....one coil read 1.4 and the one on there now read 2.2. Beginning to sound more like a fuel starvation issue. I ran it w/o the fuel cap and no change; runs 2-3 minutes then dies. On this last attempt I was able to recover when I shoved the throttle forward; didn't work the second time. Thoughts?

If the voltage regulator is causing more like 8 volts, the coil with lower Ohms will heat and fail. Check that at 1/2 throttle. Jim

If it is 12volt, and the coils are 12v requires an external resistor, that is the reason they get hot. If you have a pretty good ohm meter, measure the resistance across the small termainls (when disconnected on one side. If about 1.2 to 2 Ohms, it needs a resistor, If 3 to 4 ohms it does not. If it is 6 v tractor, it needs the lower number, and no resistor. Jim
