farmall 460 hydraulics

Following up on an earlier post regarding hydraulics on my 460. I have taken the regulator/safety valve off to clean and check the screen, when I reassembled and installed I had no hydraulics at all. I assumed I had assembled something incorrectly so took it back off and disassembled again. Everything looked correct and I have the diagram to compare to as well. Put it back together and still nothing. I've done nothing else to the tractor that was working before I took valve apart so I'm pretty sure I have done something to the valve. Any thoughts would be apricated. Thanks

Thanks but I didn’t drill the hole out mostly just opened up the screen which had collapsed but was pretty clean as was the hole

Forgot to mention when I first put it together the big spring wouldn’t compress enough so I took the cap off and turned the piston a little and it dropped in further and things went together as they should now the piston is tight and I can’t get it out where before it would slide out

That val e must not be stuck. It must move freely, but accurately. Look it over for any burrs or nicks. If found, use 600 grit to polish (only the burr) till it moves perfectly. Clean clean clean. If it is not primed, you need to put 10 psi in the reservoir and work the levers while running at 1/2 throttle. Jim

Thanks, it seems the valve is stuck and not letting it build pressure, is there a way to get it out? I am thinking about leaving the spring out and starting the tractor to see if it will push it against the cover

If it has moved in the up direction some, you have an option to push it down a bit and turn it to see if you can get it free before it (or whatever is causing the sticking) scores the body, which is really bad. Inertia might work with a plastic mallet. Jim

Since it has been apart and the system may have lost prime is there any chance a plugged hydraulic filter or low case fluid level be keeping it from priming itself?

I don’t think so the filter was replaced recently and the oil is full when I took it apart the second time it had oil in the valve so it gets there just not building pressure I’ll need to take it back apart and see if I can figure out if the relief valve is indeed stuck
