Farmall A running lean

I am having trouble getting a Farmall A to run smoothly, It runs good with choke part way on but runs rough when choke is off.I
have been through the carb several times, blew carb cleaner and air through all passages to be sure they are open. I held my hand
over intake manifold to check for air leak on intake, sucked my hand fast and held vacuum.I replaced plugs, wires, cap and
rotor, points and condenser. It runs rough without choke at all throttle positions. Any thoughts. Thanks

When you clean a carb you need to do these 4 things. Soak it over night in carb cleaner. Spray it out with carb cleaner spray. Blow it out with air and the most important things is to poke out the passageways wit ha piece of wire or as I do I use a torch tip cleaning tool to poke the passageways out and do the last 3 things 3 or 4 time. Also if your carb does not have the adjustable main jet take the main jet cover off. Turn on the gas and make sure you get a steady flow of gas out of the jet. You may need to poke it out BTDT on the BA I* built

Do you have good fuel flow to the carb? Take the line off the carb and let gas flow into a clean container
Their is a filter screen at the elbow into the carb if you didn't know that, check to be sure that is clean.
Lack of good fuel flow can be dirt or rust in the gas tank or clogged screen in gas tank or dirty screen in the top of the sediment bowl.
Good luck.
Dave.

I forgot to mention, there is no screen in the elbow,I pulled the fuel line and had good flow, pulled the plug from carb and had good flow. At one point it wouldn't stay running so I cleaned the carb, but there may be something blocking still, I may need to pull off carb and go through again. Thanks

Is your main jet adjustable or non adjustable?? If non adjustable pull the cover off like I said and make sure you get a good steady flow of gas out of it or yes it will run badly

It is non adjustable, is the cover you refer to a plug? The main jet is behind the plug I removed to check flow. Thanks

Ye the main jet sits behind that plug and wit hit off and the gas turned on you should get a steady be it small flow of gas out of it. If you don't get that flow poke it out while the gas is turned on till you get a good flow

you have a plugged pickup tube. you can run all the gas you want out the bottom of carb but that don't mean the engine will run. how did you clean this carb. was it soaked over night in gunk with the parts removed?
