I have a tractor with a m & w turbo that has been sitting for over a year I noticed that u couldn't hear the turbo so I pulled off the air inlet and can see that the intake fins aren't turning it was working when it last ran so it must of seized up while sitting does anyone know how I can free it up or will it unseize if I just run it for awhile? I can turn the intake side with a pair of pliers but I'm not sure if the exhaust side is turning at all thanks for any help

I have rebuilt turbos in the past-I would suspect if it stuck after sitting, that the bearings are gummed up. You should be able to put a socket on the impeller nut on the intake side, and rotate it. you might want to also check that is flowing to it and returning thru the drain pipe back into the oil pan. I would also pull the exhaust off the back of the turbo and inspect it too. The exhaust impeller may be gummed up. If any of the fins are damaged, you've got bigger problems: so be careful with it. Mark.

There may be reason to be concerned about a turbo-induced runaway if you do get it freed up. If the bearings leak engine oil into the intake the tractor will run on it. The compressor wheel does an awesome job of turning the oil into a mist and mixing it with the incoming air, which the engine happily ingests and ignites. It will go until all the engine oil is consumed, and shutting it off at the injection pump won't stop it. Only thing that stops it is cutting off the air supply.

Just something to be aware of. If the tractor starts acting funny that may be what is going on.
