Farmall 400 SN

Newbie tractor owner here. I don't know much at all about them, but I saw one that caught my eye and the price was right. I've been asking about the SN in various forums, but I haven't had any luck yet. My 400 has a "ES" at the end of the Serial Number. I think I know what the "S" means, but I have not found anything about the "E" yet. Does anyone know where I could find more information on this?

Well it is over 50 years old so who know where it was shipped to when new. Just like me I started out in Alabama but moved 5 times before I was 5 years old and I have been all over the U.S. and also over seas and a tractor can pretty much do the same

That's a fair point. Makes you wonder where it has been and how it made it here to AL.

Now I need to look into any changes I may need to make if it's setup for high altitude.

Thanks for the information and advice. I will probably be back to ask questions about the hitch once I have studied them enough to not sound completely stupid.

The part number, for the head should be on the right side on the head, that would be the first thing i would do, maybe it's been changed already, the cavity for the combustion chamber is smaller, there fore having more compression ! Go there with a steel brush and some spray cleaner and it will be there!
