Can anything be done about a fan that leaks oil? IH dealer says it does not have a seal, I tried putting a rubber washer on but it still leaks, tried 90 weight gear oil in it instead or 30 weight and it still leaks. Wonder if I could pack it with wheel bearing grease? What do you think or should I just buy a new reproduction fan assembly.

Thanks

Tom

Haas has some good advice on this. If you still can't get the leak below the level you want then I would buy a new one. The new ones have sealed ball bearings instead of bushings/oil design. In my opionion the new ones are better.

You only put a small amount of oil in it. Are you following the instructions for filling?? Fill with oil with the fill opening in the horizontal position. Then turn the fill opening down and let the excess oil drain out. There is a standpipe on the inside that causes the chamber to retain the proper amount of oil. Also make sure you have a good washer under the screw that closes the fill hole. Also, I think there is a gasket on the fan hub that could be leaking.
