I have a 460 with a 221 gas engine in it. I want to rebuild the engine and add a bit more power to it. Without putting a different engine in it,( to hard to find and to much money) I was thinking of changing the crankshaft and connecting rods with ones from a 263. Since both engines have the same bore but different stokes, by changing the crank and rods this should work without any other problems or modifications? Please correct me If im wrong. Thanks

Your looking at and engine rebuild since your pistons have only moved sofar they set up a ware pattern and by changing out the crank and pistons they will find the ridges . Then ya need a carb change and a dist change . I know where your coming from as i HAD a 460 ONCE . Nice BIG little tractor was kinda like owning a motor cycle and a boat . They was two days you really liked it . That was the day your bought it and the day it went out the drive.

Ok thanks for the input. What is the difference in the carb and distributer ? I thought they were the same

On the carb is jetting and venture , on the dist is the curve plus timing . If your putting in new sleevves ya got to know what sleeves ya need as here one size does not fit all. Get a manual and read up on it . Nothing worse then having a sleeve get sucked down around the crank on a fresh engine not done correctly .
