ai and adding hyd

I have found an ai without hyd, how hard is it to add? I have been looking for a super thinking they were more hp and all had hyd already but have found they are the same engine size wise and some didn't come with hyd. I like the idea of the heavier front end and brace as well so thinking about buying this one if I can add things I want to it without much trouble, this has like new rear tires, front wheel weights but no rear weights, decent sheet metal and is painted red, I haven't heard it run yet but what are these bringing on the market now, thanks for any help with this

Location will be an important factor in terms of value.

As to the hydraulics - unless the engine block has been replaced with a newer one and the has the mounting hole for a pump (front right lower corner) then you?re going to have to be creative.

Assuming the port isn?t on the block what do you want to do with the hydraulics? You could put a PTO pump on it but it won?t be ?live?. Also you could belt drive one from the front of the engine, fiddly and limited to the power you can transmit via the belt. If you don?t need a lot of flow or a high duty cycle you could convert the tractor to 12v with an alternator and use a 12v hydraulic power pack.

I mounted a small forklift hydraulic that ran off the crank pulley on an A Farmall using a shaft and a love joy coupling.
I had to machine the pulley flat where the receiver was for the hand crank pulley and then make a flange to bolt there. The flange was bored to size, a keyway cut and a hole drilled and tapped for a set screw. I made a little shaft that was a light press fit into this and then a half a love joy couple on the other end. I put the other half of the love joy coupling on the hydraulic pump and it mounted behind the grill where the hand crank would have inserted. I had to make a custom bracket to mount the pump, which also replaced the bracket I removed where the lower bolt for the grill fastened.
It worked fine and didn't really give me any problems other than with a brand new fan belt, the fan blades were really close to hitting the love joy coupling, so I put the old belt back on the tractor. I did finally remove the pump because I didn't really need hydraulics on the tractor and I wanted the tractor to look more original, instead of having hydraulic lines, a reservoir and valves mounted on it. About the only thing I ever really used on it that needed hydraulics was a front-mounted blade. I have 14 other tractors I can use that on, so I decided to take it all back off. The pump was 6gpm and worked well for what I used it for. I did add a turbo to the A to make up for the power lost to that hydraulic pump and because I wanted to do it.

Look under the governor if there is a block out platte there, all you need is the pump, a redervoir, a suction side filter (screw on, probably 15GPM flow, and a open center valve. If no blockout plate, the engine was replaced ith an old one (pre 1947 or so IIRC). Jim

A non-Super A or Industrial A without implements is not much more than a slow, heavy go-kart.

They do not take the same implements as a Super A, which are much easier to find. Finding A implements with all the parts is tough. Each implement has its own lift mechanism, none are universal, and they consist of many easy-to-lose parts which have frequently been lost in the ensuing 70 years.

Frankly I would hold out for a Super A with hydraulics. The "heavier" front end really isn't of any benefit unless you plan on abusing the tractor.
