Well, I checked the rod going from the gov to the carb. I dont know if it was seated right but I reseated it. Then I took off the housing the mag is attached to just to find out that it isnt the govenor. I did that, cause on that side on my B the gov IS on that side. So, I rebuckled it and took the plate off of the govenor. The spring looks good, but its loose. Is it supposed to be loose or not. If it is supposed to be tight. What do I do to get it that way??

If your throttle lever is at low idle the spring will be loose if you pull the throttle lever back you will see the spring tighten and stretch.

I'm curious - your headline says your tractor won't start. Why do you think its a governor problem? If your tractor won't start its either a fuel or an electrical issue issue.

Dang, at 72, I guess im going to, well U know lol. I shouldnt have said it wont start cause it does start, and Ive had that tractor for near 20yrs, and I KNOW that pulling the gas lever all the way back opens it up. I KNOW THAT. O wqell, Youll get there someday, as my dad usta say when he was old. lol

I'm not that far off. Couldn't get my F14 to start this spring after having put it up for the winter. Wouldn't start with the crank or towing it. I was ready to start taking some things apart and found I hadn't turned on the gas.

I will put a link here to your first post. In my reply to that post open the IH parts page link. If you take the 2 screws out of the breather...number 3...on top the governor you can see how much movement the governor is give the throttle plate. You could do the same by running it with the governor cover off but it will sling oil all over.
