Had health problems the past 5 year's and have started working to get it running again. New plugs points oil fresh gas oil etc. Clutch plate was such so I had to start in gear to get that fixed. Kept working on it and I'm able to push clutch in and put in gear. However now I only have low idle and high idle. I have an IT shop manual and check adjustments. My question is how do you check the rpms and with what?

If you know some one with an old tach and dwell meter that works or you can buy a modern RPM meter that goes off of magnetic tape on balancer. I see some timing lights that look to have the RPM option included? I don't have one or ever used one. There are a lot of old tach and dwell meters for sale but I would be careful as many are old and sold as is meaning they may or may not work. I had a real nice one that was thrown in free on a pile of stuff at auction. It was a high quality meter in its day. Had batteries inside that corroded and the thing was junk. Be careful of old electronics unless guaranteed by seller or you can try them out first. I bought a modern magnetic tape RPM meter from HF but have not used it as I still have a tachometer that works easier. To me it is a very important tool to have it lets you know your close to factory specs if your playing with timing or governors. Regards, John.
