I had the 706 with no steering, TA and brakes. Well, I did what you said. I took my air compressor, took off the chuck, put the hose in the transmission filling hole, stuffed a rag around it and turned on the air valve. Tractor was running. Immediately I had steering, brakes and TA. Everything worked fine during the period I used it. Hope it works the next time I use it too. If not I will do it again until I have time to really tear into it. I hope it is OK but if it does lose its charge what is wrong? At least I can make it through planting. Some hope to start corn planting this weekend in eastern Iowa. Thanks again guys. andy

We have an 856 that the pump will not prime every time we change the filter or leave it set for a long time. I know the pump is fine because we have changed the pump and the tractor acts the same with the new pump as with the old pump. The only way to tell if you run a pressure and a flow test.

Glad to hear your tractor is working, that trick with the air hose is one I hadn't heard of before. I'll have to remember that one myself. It does sound like your pump is getting weak though. I'd be willing to bet you will be replacing it someday. When our 856 was acting like that we had to purge the air from the system every morning before we could use it. Then it would be fine all day long. I finally got fed up with it and took the mcv and pump off my 706 (it had a new pump and new gaskets and seals) and put it on the 856, that was the end of our troubles. I put a new pump, gaskets and seals on the old mcv and installed it on my 706 and it works fine now too. Dave
