On a 154, the adjustment is under the tractor, just follow the clutch pedal. Take off the sheetmetal cover, remove the pin that holds the linkage, and adjust the rod. Youll have to reinstall and check, then do all of that over again until its right, but if its slipping, it worn out most likely. It doesnt have to be split to change it, you can slid the engine forward enough to get the drive shaft out.

I would take that center cover off and see if the throwout bearing is touching the fingers on the pressure plate first. If they are not, its time for a new clutch, and replacing the spring was just coincidental.

Yes. Slippage will start to occur as the driven (friction)disc wears thinner. As this happens the pedal gets closer and closer to the stop (foot off the pedal location). the pedal should have about an inch to 1-1/4" free play. this means the pedal can be moved by hand pressure easily for the first inch or so, then becoming harder to push as the clutch begins to release (stop the tractor). This adjustment is made on the rod where the pedal connects to the inside of the tractor middle casting. If there is good freeplay, and it still slips, the clutch needs to be replaced. That requires splitting the tractor. and replacing several parts: driven disc, pressure plate, throweout bearing, pilot bearing, and looking for other wear on linkage and pivot points. Jim
