I have a 1965 IH 606 diesel tractor that I am restoring. I had to replace a brake shaft that the brake and clutch pedals go to that was ruined from out of round pedal holes on the brake and clutch pedals. I do not want to ruin the new shaft. What is the fix for this common problem? Are sleeves available for the pedals or what else has to be done to fix this. Thanks, Jerry

The shaft hole is drilled to a standard larger size, then reamed to an exact size. to do this it is placed in a combination of clamps and or a machine
vise so that the hole is accurately aligned to its original axis. A bushing made from sintered bronze, (oilite is a brand) that is pressed into that
hole with an interference fit. The bore is then reamed to fit the new shaft (about .001" clearance, and a grease hole is drilled through. and a zerk
installed. The position of the pedal on many tractors causes foot pressure to applied sideways. the repair I describe is much better than it came from
the factory. Jim

Are there no grease zerk's,there was on the old M and 806,but i have seen a lot of wear on the old M's! May i ask how many hours were on the 606?

Thanks for the info. I take it this would be done in a machine shop. Where can the bushings be purchased and do you have a guess as to the total cost to have this done for all three pedals?

e clutch and one brake pedal have zerk fittings. The tractor sat in a barn for years due to internal hydraulic oil leaks. I split the tractor and replaced all bad seals. The tach on the tractor shows 1120 hours but it is broken so I do not know how accurate this is.

Let the machinist get the bushing as they will need it prior to the task. Probably $100 if doing 2
pedals. The left wheel brake is clamped on and should have no wear. Get firm bids before accepting
the job. There will be only worn pedals in the used market, plus shipping. You could do the
drilling and zerk install (if there is a zerk already, the hole in the bushing needs to be drilled.)
