Super C clutch

I just put a new clutch and pressure plate into my Super C. Old pressure plate had a broken finger and clutch lining was worn a lot. Started the tractor for the first time today and can't get the tractor into
gear. I have a little free place (abut an inch) on the peddle so is it possible the fingers need adjusting? If so what distance should they be?

An inch is OK freeplay. Did you possibly put the disk in backwards. The hub springs hit the flywheel bolts when it is flipped backwards. Did you need to adjust the clutch a bunch after the install?. Jim

I haven't done any adjustments to the clutch since installing the new hardware. I had the thought about the plate being in backwards but I remember when installing it to make sure it when in right. Still doesn't mean I didn't screw up. I will take a look tomorrow for that. I remembered something after writing the first post - I had something happen when putting the tractor together and I'm wondering if the plate got warped. I'm expecting to have to split the tractor again as it wasn't fun enough the first time.

If there was modest alignment problems going together a warped disc is probably it. If the tractor is out in open territory with nothing to run into, put it in third, push down the clutch, and start it. If it seems to be ok, or just tries a little to move, let out the clutch and see if it moves as expected. If it does, don't try to shift it, get it back where you need it to be, (or stop it and shut it off, then put it in 1st or? to drive slowly to where you need it. Testing this way will tell you right away if the disc is in backwards because if it is, it will not slip at all, and it will start to go with the clutch down. Jim
