Farmall M Live Hydraulics

I?m finally getting around to installing the live pump on my M I
just acquired a Christmas tree valve and had a couple
question on the routing of the hydraulic lines. I will post a
couple pictures to hopefully be as clear as possible. My belly
pump is gutted and I?m in the process of plugging all the holes
so the belly pump will be used as a reservoir only. Since doing
that will it be necessary to install a pressure relief valve where
I have marked in my picture? And if so can I tee off of it and
go to the opening that?s up higher on the belly pump rather
than putting it at the bottom near the suction line? The tractor
pictured is not mine just a visual of the T at the suction I?m
referring too. And the suction line goes to larger port on the
left on the live pump?
I appreciate any assistance I?m finally trying to wrap this M up

Yes with gutted housing and Xmas tree valve you need the pressure relief. Side hole is good for return from relief valve if it opens. Would open the drain hole up to 3/4 pipe threads if using it for suction.

So 3/4 hose coming from the suction, coming from the pump to relief valve would I need 1/2 hose I found a relief valve that I think will work

Yes I use the same relief valve on a tractor, except 3/4 in and out and 1/2 relief return. Since the Xmas tree only has a 1/2 inch inlet a 1/2 hose should work.

Should that relief be set to around 1000 psi? And if I come from the belly pump to the IH live pump with my suction with a 3/4 I?ll have to have a 1?-3/4? reducer at the pump and then a 3/4-1/2? reducer for the feed for the valve unless I do a relief like your talking about then I?ll just have to reduce it to 1/2 at the Christmas tree? Sorry for all the questions I just want to get it squared away before I buy new hoses

Suction line is generally sized bigger than the pressure line. Don't think a 1/2 hose to the xmas tree valve will hurt since its a short distance and just a 1/2 pressure inlet opening in it. Two types of xmas tree valves some with just a inlet to left side and some also has one pointing to front. One with front type opening can have the relief plumbed straight in to it with no tee or elbow. 1/2 hose from relief port to the original pressure port on side of reservoir. If just inlet opening on left you need at least a 90 elbow. Yes on reducing bushings at pump manifold if like ones used on IH pumps before the hundred series. Depends on use as to pressure setting. No use setting higher than needed. Start off with 1000 PSI and try. Then go up if needed. Don't like to go over a 1000 with original cam gear or over 1200 or 1250 with a later gear myself. Just my ideas with what you have, some may have better.

I really appreciate it I know now you?ve helped me multiple times a lot of my local friends all have Oliver?s so this set up is new for me but you cleared it up for me. The m&w had 3/4 hose in and out didn?t it? I guess I could do that as well with a 3/4 relief in and out like you were talking about with a 1/2 relief going to reservoir
