Needing advice with 706 front bolster area

Hi All. I am needing some advice on the front of my gas farmall 706. Forgive me if I get some terminology wrong. So for the last two years I have been trying to keep
2 bolts tight( the one in the center of picture one). I came to find out this winter that there actually 4 bolts. I have been tightening the two closer to the oil pan.
I noticed there are two more at the front and they are all the way out and just sitting there. Because of the way my bolster and axle are situated they cannot fall out
to the ground but can't be tightened without taking off the whole front axle and the cast iron plate above it.
While I was discovering all this I noticed a little ouch in one of the bolster bolt holes.(see pic two). Here is where I need the advice. Can I just leave this as
is with the other three bolts holding it? I do minimal work with this tractor(mostly for acreage stuff). If I should replace this piece, how much is the part and how
hard to take out? Thanks for any advice.

I would try a longer bolt and see if it would stay tight then. This looks like it is the piece the tierods bolt to. And it in turn bolts to the swivel plate under the radiator. I would clean the holes up and use some locktite on the threads. Everything will have to be clean and oil free for that to work.

Does anyone know how hard it would be to remove that piece that is broken. That whole cast iron piece looks massive. Thanks

If that is the front casting you will need to support the whole front end while you pull it out. You will also need something to lift it with. I've not had one out before but would guess it would be either a very good lift by hand or hoist required to lift it. You will have to pull the front casting off around the radiator and the radiator. If you have a good hoist you might be able to pull the complete casting out with rad and all then separate on the floor. There is also a chance that some of the bolts will twist off in the side of the rails holding it.

Thanks for the response. I think i am going to go with your longer bolt suggestion before I spend $500 and the time and effort to get that thing out of there. The guys at the local IH shop said that might have been broke for years.

So here is the part that I might need to replace($380 later). Does anyone know how hard it is to pull this out? Does this actually hold the power steering oil or any fluids and how many hookups this would have? I am going to try to tap some new bolt holes on mine but it doesn't look good.

That's the front bolster, and yes, that is what you will need to replace.

Yes, it contains the power steering. Yes it is heavy.

You will need to pull the entire front end off the tractor. Detach and roll the front axle out from under. Drain and lift off the radiator. Lift off the grille casting. Then you can slide the bolster out on to a barrel or use an engine hoist to slide it out.

Thank you for answering my questions. I really appreciate it! Ugh, I was hoping to not have to pull the radiator out of there but oh well. I just hope everything comes apart ok. Not looking forward to this. Wish me luck. At least I already have the whole axle off already.

Sorry to overthink this but looks like the only bolts holding the radiator in place are the two on each side that connect it to the front grill casting, correct? Or are there any that come from underneath?
Just would like to know if the radiator is connected to that front bolster at all. It didn't look like it after I cleaned mine all up. I am guessing you said to lift the radiator just so it is easier to get at the bolster?
I think this won't be so bad. but, of course guys taking bolts out isn't the problem. Lining everything back up and putting them back in is a different story.

I think it is like a 560 but you can search on the case-ih site . The 560 there is two bolts on each side that holds the radiator in the frame. Once you lift the radiator out there is
four bolts that go down into the front cast piece. 706 should have two hoses into the cast piece and if installed a oil cooler that is mounted in front of the radiator. I had a 706 but
is long gone so the case ih site will show the fasteners. Good luck as those small bolts like to break off.

We did that job to a 656 (identical to a 706) a few years ago to repair the power steering inside the bolster. It was easier to drain and pull the radiator completely off the tractor. Plus it's a good opportunity to replace the radiator hoses.

Awesome information guys, thanks! I really appreciate it. If I was thinking I would have started my own youtube channel for this project.
