Took the narrow front off my M and there was a wedge shaped piece between the pedestal and where it bolts on. Did all M's have this or was it optional. Thanks.

I think it was made by M@W Gear, to kant the front end, so the wobble wasn't so present, and to steer a bit easier !

It was an add on to make steering a little easier I thought it made a difference. I-H made later models by moving the pedestal 1 1/2 degrees back to improve steering.

My Super H has one of those wedges.

It's sort of a "poor man's power steering". It makes steering a bit easier - but not dramatically so.....

That wedge changed the angle of the front wheels so as to make the "wobble" in road gear less of a problem.

I have one on my "H" that dad installed years ago, it can still wobble so I think it is pretty useless.

The science behind it is like a wobbling rear wheel on a shopping cart; if you could increase the angle of the mounting to the rear the wheel will stop wobbling.

The problem with the wedge on a tractor, if you could change the angle enough to fix the wobble, the wheels would be set back so much it would affect the steering/handling.

I spent $400 on parts to fix the problem, it all helped some but did not cure the problem.

Best way to stop wobbling is to deflate one tire to about 15 psi...the steering wheel will pull to one side a little bit but the wobbling is stopped!! Mostly.

Another way to stop the wobbling is to never run the tractor at high speeds. But that is no fun! Driving a Farmall on the road wide open is still a blast from the past!!
