OK Tell Me Again, F20 versus F30

I can't remember how to tell the difference between an F20 and F30. I think the air cleaner location was one of the clues. I keep driving by one that is parked in the edge of the woods. Some day I'm going to stop and look at it.

The F-20 is like an H, the F-30 like an M the engine in a 30 nearly fills the under hood area (maybe see an inch and a half across and out the other side between the valve cover, and the lower edge of the hood on each side. The F20 has about 3.5 inches there. Jim

The F30 has a large nut in the center of the rear wheel. the F20 does not, just a flat hub. The F30 is a significantly bigger tractor. The gas tank is more rectangular, not as square as F20. Other differences between the two are if when sitting side by side, are plain as day, very obvious.

One other note about the F30 if standing close enough - the rear engine mounts are bolted to the frame with 2 bolts on each side (from the bell housing mount). The F20 only has one.

Not much difference in air cleaner location the F30 canister is bigger. other things not mentioned to tell them apart. The F20 pto lever is on the left side of the transmission and the 30 is top mounted on the right side, very distinct and handy to tell from a distance or pic. Also The belt pulley housing mounts on the F20 with four bolts and the 30 with six.

Forgot the really obvious difference, the F30 also has a waterpump

I assume an F-20 or F-30 that has been sitting outside for years is only worth scrap value ($200?). I believe it is on steel wheels. What are the running unrestored ones
bringing these days? I know the price of older tractors like this keeps going down.

(quoted from post at 18:35:02 02/25/20) Where is the serial number tag located?
on the toolbox under the gas tank and stamped in the left frame rail by the bell housing, also should be a number on the upper left of the engine block. F20's usually match the serial number, F30's usually don't match as the engines were also used in the W30

Should be stamped in the serial tag attached to the toolbox under the fuel tank, stamped in the frame rail on the left side, and also in the engine block on a raised embossment that is machined flat (if I remember right).

The F20 has the oil filter between cylinders 3 and 4 whereas on the F30 it is between cylinders 2 and 3 (mid-length of engine). The F30 has same engine as W30 and same engine bore and stroke as the earlier 10-20

Find out who owns it first. I often park the SMTA next to the woods. Other equipment too. I would not appreciate seeing a stranger looking it over without permission.

By the looks of the brush growing up around it, it's been sitting thee a very long time. The is also a pull type combine sitting next to it. Looks to be IH.

If it is truly an f30 on full steel, and wheels are in good shape, its worth $800+. I don't care what kind of shape the tractor is in. The steel wheels alone will bring more then that.
