Got the 400 running good and also have a Behlen power steering set up. Wanting to install it on the 400. It came off of a M. I have everything to install it. But, need to cut the steering shaft. Unsure WHERE to make that cut so it fits as it should. Can I get some information on that from one of you guys that has p/s on your tractor? You can text me photos and information to my cell. 308-763-1265....Thanks Guys !!

Depends how it was mounted on a M. If the in and out shaft is made like the units used on the 100 series all you need to do is measure distance from end to end of the unit shafts, then cut off the worm shaft that distance plus another 1/8 inch. Braces like number 5 were used to keep unit from rolling if a gas model. Don't know what kind of coupling you have to join worm shaft with unit. Pinned or a key way? Guess you have a pump to supply unit? Rear shaft on the Behlen unit went through the same rear support the worm shaft did with no changes there on a 400.

Yes D Slater. I have the original pump. But, not sure if I want to remove the distributor as last time I jad a heck of time getting it timed....Im sure theres other options as to use the tractors hydraulics for power. What ports would I use instead of the original pump? Thanks..

If you have the power steering pump that bolts between the tractor pump and the distributor it would be simpler than what it takes to plumb into the tractor system. Need most parts in the picture and the valve tower disassembled and parts added. Then the pressure regulating and priority block that faces the fuel tank is worn lots of times so the power steering is weak.

Ok D Slater. I guess I will use the original pump then. Its a tried and true setup. Thanks again for the photo.
