460 brakes update

Well I spent this morning while in a fine mist, replacing the brakes on my 460. The old disk were glazed up good. Replaced disks, balls and springs. The seals were not leaking so I left them alone. Now Mabel stops on a dime and gives you a nickel in change.

Thanks for all the info and help.

Here are some pics of the project.

The disks would have been alright probably if they were not worn down in thickness much.
If those are eye bolts on the tractor. I hope you don't break them. Eye bolts are designed to pull straight out endways not sideways on.

One more vote on not pulling sideways on eye bolts! I may not have noticed it if "caterpillar guy" had not mentioned it but scares me to think what would happen if you took off from a stop going up a hill.

If nothing else I would run another pair of chains through the rear wheels pulling forwards.

Working around heavy equipment for 45 years I have seen some bad things happen with improperly secured loads. Like a D6C shifting to one side due to ice on a trailer and the cutting edge opening the side of a brand new pick-up truck like a sardine can!

If you are going to tie down that way, make sure you use "hoist rings" that are designed to allow side pull. Quite pricey compared to a plain old lifting eye, but cheap
compared to loosing something off a trailer
