Close call with my BN last summer. Split the tractor, replaced the freeze plug, replaced the clutch, put it all back together and fired it up. All seemed well, no water leak and running fine. Hopped on and tried to engage into gear; wouldn't go, just grinded. Hmmm. Oh, the new clutch needs adjusted. I was so happy the engine was running again and no coolant dumping out the rear of the block I just let it run and enjoyed the moment. Meanwhile, I got to looking underneath to see how to adjust the clutch rod; found a hole in the driveshaft cast housing by which the clutch rod could be adjusted. Stuck a rag in to clean some of the grease so I could see if there was adjustment left. Man, that spinning driveshaft which I could not see, grabbed that rag and snapped it out of my hand so hard it hurt. Could have been very bad if I had had a better grip on the rag. Shocked me bad.

One always needs to engage the brain before eve doing any thing because the only good safety device is the one between the ears but if you do not engage the brain first you have problems
 
Yes, I always TRY to tell myself to stop STOP, when approaching any of my machines; lets think this over, is there anything you've forgot? STOP and look!! I don't always do it tho ?.
 
It happens SO quick!

Some years ago, I slide under a pickup truck that was idling to check on an exhaust leak or whatever, and got some skin ripped off of my hand by sharp balance weights on the torque convertor!!!

The "pan" under the convertor was missing, and I didn't know that when I was pulling myself underneath.

Could have just as well pulled my hand in between the convertor and bellhousing, but just gouged it a little!
