price of a cub

There is a 1950 cub for sale that is about 3 hours from where I live. In the pictures it looks ok and it has a woods 59 belly mower. It was advertised first on tuesday for 1300.00 and today it is down to a 1000.00. It's a long way to go to find out it's junk and I was wondering what you guys thought about the price and the drop in just days. Thanks.

In relation to that, a 5 ft mower is too big for a Cub, unless the grass and weeds are mowed when small. It will strain my Super A if too big.

That's not enough information to give an educated guess as to the value of a tractor. How's the tires? Does it run? Does it smoke? Does it have major oil leaks? What part of the country is it in? All these things make a big difference as to price.

I won't go into how I know, but a Cub is a fairly expensive tractor to bring back from the brink. Implements for Cubs can be difficult to find and pricey when you do. You need more info. Drop on over to TM Tractor and make yourself acquainted with the costs associated with these little guys. Then find out what is missing and back into a fair price.

Steve: Rusty wheel has it nailed. There are too many variables to be able to give you a precise answer. I disagree with Dave in this respect - there were over a quarter million Cubs made during it's run so there's plenty of used parts to be had with a little digging. FarmallCub.com is a wealth of knowledge - I'd suggest going there. In my area (WI), Cubs are expensive as they are few and far between. The first quarter of 1950, Farmall introduced a demonstrator program where they painted lots of tractors white for dealers to use for demo purposes - this was done between the s/n's 99,000 and 106,000 approximately. If it were in my area and looked and ran halfway decently, I'd own it but that's just me. Good luck. CC

That price is about right for a rough one. I just bought a loader off one last weekend , i could of had the hole tractor with loader for $1000.00 .

I own two of them ! I paid $1700.00 for the 55 with fast hitch and front plow.[Needed work]

I paid $2700.00 for the 54 , but it was a barn find that had been put away for 26 years.

So $1000.00 isn't alot but keep that in mind.
Check the trans , it will probaly be loud in first and reverse [most are] .

Check the fromt motor mounts to make sure the block isn't broken .

Peolpe may say i paid to much ! But i got all the goodies with each of them .

It is a easy tractor to work on and repair, parts are not a problem.

If it doesn't have the power for that deck email me back and i will show you how to make more power with that motor.

CNKS is right! Took a Woods 59 off my 76 Cub because the Cub doesn't have the power to pull the mower unless you mower several times a week.

then you need to rebuild that super A!
mowed way tooo much with a 59 inch mowers on different cubs to buy what you are saying

Tune it up, adjust the valves, etc. Check mower bearings and lube it. Makes a BIG difference.

Got to agree with evil on this one. I live in Michigan. My FCub works just fine with my Woods 59 and does a terrific job on my lawn mowing every 2 weeks. We had a good disussion on this over at farmallcub dot com.
The Woods 59 is a finish mower and the guys that have problems are trying to use it as a brush chopper.

Sometimes when I mow the grass/weeds may be 2 ft tall -- that is not exactly a lawn. If I mowed every 2 weeks, It would do it in 3rd gear. You simply have not used a Cub in adverse conditions, whatever that may be in your area. I know what is in the areas I mow. If you have a big enough yard and use the Cub as a lawn mower, and keep the blades sharp, it will be fine. I have had to run an M in 1st gear on occasion with a 5 ft bushhog with dulll blades. I'm thinking thick 3 ft tall wheat that I planted strictly for ground cover, along with the downy brome and weeds that came up in it. One size does not fit all. One answer does not fit all, either.

Hi James
Came across your post on this. I have an opportunity to by this one at an estate sale. comes from a good home kept under cover. I'm wondering about the value of the tractor itself; the plow and the flail mower attached. I will check that the engine is not locked. The sale price is $1500. Price will go down by the last day of the sale (Sunday 2/23/20) Really wondering what it might be worth in working condition, cleaned up, but not restored.
thanks

That's the problem some use the term mowing to mean something completely different from what the other person is talking about.

In my opinion a Woods belly mount mower whether a 59 or L306 are not designed to be brush-hogs! I have seen people saying an A or even a C can not power a L306.

All I know I have been using a L306 under a BN for at least 40 years. 98% of the time I mow in 3 rd gear only once in a while if ground is too wet so I have to skip mowing for a extra week or so there is a part of the yard/field that I have to mow in 1 st gear.

I have an H with that L306. The H has plenty of power, but if the grass is too tall, the drive belt will slip.

Some people don't know what grass is. They've never had to deal with truly thick, fast growing grass.

They also can't admit that their tractor has limitations. The definition of "great" is on a sliding scale to justify their choice. They take any statement that it might not be the best choice personally.

I've mowed with Cubs. They worked... okay. One, there was no amount of valve adjusting or spindle lubing that was going to make it work well in that specific yard.

The long and short of it is, you have to WANT to use a Cub to be happy mowing with a Cub. Lawn care has to be enjoyable for you and you can't mind spending some extra time on it.
