Is Farmall the Make, or the model.

Getting some name badges made for friends tractor, and was wondering what you consider the make / Model of tractors to be?
I would say he has an Make: International Model: Farmall 560.

What do you all say?

Row crop is Farmall, Standard is International.

So I assume, based on your example its a Farmall 560, built by "Interantional" Harvester

The Make Was International Harvester Company, The sub category is Farmall, the Model is 450. As below, the Farmall was considered primarily row crop, with taller hweels and often
narrow front steering wheels (2 close together, or less often a single wheel) Utility tractors (shorter and more compact) were International Branded. Wheatland, or standard
tractors were McCormick Deering, or Just McCormick as a brand. From The purchase by Tennaco, The names have been used in a variety of ways not consistent with the above, and on
tractors of various origins and heredity. Jim

You're talking those little signs some people have on their tractors at tractor shows, right?

If so, close enough. Maybe consider going full "International Harvester" for the Make, though.

That's what I thought. I've had name plates made before and they were reluctant to name International Harvester as the Make. They said "The Make is Farmall". I said, "no the model is Farmall M".

Thanks

Lots of variation in these answers. I don't totally agree with any of them! This subject is so convoluted that any agreement or
disagreement is futile. Get a book with photos of tractors of all vintages made by IHC and decide for your self.

the famous IHC is the make or makers of all these makes of tractors. McCormick Deering, McCormick, then International, and Farmall . in 1955 the mccormick's were changed to international's. farmalls stayed farmall. guess it could compare to GMC and Chevrolet. Ford and Mercury.

Just to add to the confusion my 1970 International 140, according to the decals says McCormick Farmall on the serial plate.

Janicholson is correct here in that it is confusing. IH had so many different brands over the years that applied to so many products... From about the mid-50s to the mid-70s, the row crops were Farmalls and the utilities were Internationals, and the hood sideplates reflected that. Then, sometime in the mid to late 70s, the hood badges went to International on all of 'em and the front lower side panel plates/decals would say Farmall where applicable. Then at some point they pretty much dropped the Farmall name and everything was International. Now CaseIH has resurrected the Farmall name, but even though I work at a dealership, I have yet to fully understand how the new ones with the Farmall name are different than the regular CaseIH machines, except that a few of them are gray. CaseIH tends to classify their tractors by the A, B, C, and U designations after the model number, the A being the most basic and the U with all the bells and whistles. The Farmalls also have those designations.
