D282 head differences

I have a 560D with head number 278368R1 head
on it that needs going through.
I have a line on another one number 278368 R4
Off of a later tractor. My question is two fold ....
1 what?s the difference between the 2 and
2 if there?s any advantage of swapping the R4
head.
They both need rebuilding but I can get the R4
head next to nothing.

The R4 part number tells you it was improved or changed three times. I know one thing is the sleeves that go into the head for the head bolts. The depth they go into the head was changed due to cracking below the tubes. Extra hole for coolant flow and you can drill the hole in the block to match it is you so choose. And the larger valves but don't know for sure if that was R4 or later.

Lord knows, they never run out of suffix numbers. First head gasket I changed on a 460 it took a long time to get a new one and I think it was a R6 already.

Some heads have 1.375 exhaust valves and some some 1.3. right now I'm working on a head and the 1.3 valves are good and also working on one with the 1.375 valves shot, like curled over. Looks like typical after market junk. I imagine a good practice would be to use valves that say IH on them.
