706-d 282 questions

well after a year and a half working on the paint and in frame rebuild I got it running, had a hard time getting the injection pump primed. I have a few questions maybe you guys have dealt with.

1. the IPTO does not completely shut off and turns when the leave is down, you can stop it with a channel locks. I have had a few of them out over the year's to have them rebuilt and I have replaced the small pin also a few time on the engagement rod but never ran in to this. what is this a sign of or does it need rebuilt?

2. oil pressure is at 38 psi when warm and 41 psi when cold, I rebuilt the oil pump when I did the in frame does that sound right?

3. hard starting when cold I had the head redone with new vales and I know I have the per combustion cups in the injectors in the 6 o'clock position. I did not have the injection pump off or changed any timing. this is a early 282 with the slip fit sleeves and the glow plugs are working. is this normal for this motor? when I got this tractor it had been eithered to death as that is how they started it.

4. my first tractor I had was a 706 with the 310 motor and it had a block heater can I put a block heater in this motor? this tractor main job when done will be pulling hay wagon's and running grain auger in the fall. I still have a lot to do yet as I need to fix some wiring and I do not have any of the white paint work done yet.

thanks in advance for your guys help.

the thing to do was check the timing so you know where its at. also you need to hold the glow plugs while cranking. everything in order they start very easy. you can put one or two block heaters in it if you want . just pop the frost plugs out.

Sounds like you might just need to be satisfied and let the motor break itself in and see if it starts better over time. Oil pressure sounds plenty good. You prabably have almost twice as much oil pressure as its minimum requirement.

Well on the PTo this sounds like first off the clutch pac is toast and needs rebuilt , next up0 ya need to go deeper into the PTO and replace the brakes , To go deeper ya need to make up a return spring compressor to compress the big spring so you can remove the clutch drum . Now as to your oil pressure your a wee bit light and probable due to cam and main bearing . Now as to your hard starting and since i was not the one doing the head or having the head done i have no idea on how the valves set , next up did you check sleeve stand out ?? how did the sleeves go in??:?Are your glow plugs all heating ??? how long did you cycle them for the temp range the tractor is setting in , Even on a 0 Degree day then need 30 seconds and on a COLD day they will take a couple min. and for this ya NEED 2 GOOD batterys , what shape is your starter in , if it is not turning fast enough then she will be hard starting , what size are your battery cables . Are the heavy or are they cables for a toy car . You have no idea if the injection pump is coming up to pressure at cranking speed . Way to many could be's that i can not just say oh yea this is what your problem is .
