super c question

Got my 51 Super C started after sitting for a year. I checked the hydraulic oil and it was low or gone so I filled it up and drove it around it runs good and hydraulics worked. Pulled it in the garage for a couple days and started it up again and no hydraulics checked reservoir and it is empty again. Oh no, do you guys have any idea where it went? In the engine oil, or possibly the rear end.

I saaume no big puddle under the tractor. It is in the engine oil pan. It got there through the seal on the hydraulic pump below the governor. It may be an Oring, or a lip seal. If an Oring, it is easy to replase the ring, but not if it has a groove where it was rubbing. A speedy sleeve makes the shaft too big to put it together unless the oring groove is machined. If a regular seal, a slightly different depth of seal (see Motion Industries or Kaman Bearing) can place the lip out of the groove. If not, a speedy sleeve will also work. Jim

janicholson I took the pump off. and now I replace the 2 o rings and a new gasket? Correct? I guess I can get o rings and gasket at IH dealer. I don't know what a speedy sleeve is

Here is some information on the speedi-sleeves:

Note that there are other companies that also make or sell these things, believe one goes by the name of "Redi-sleeves"

Any good bearing supply house should have or be able to supply them. Can be bit tricky to use the first time but if you decide to use one just ask for advice here first.

I or someone will be glad to give some pointers.

Imagine the existing shaft with a very thin metal sleeve (like a steel soda can with no ends, made small enough to slide on with a bit of effort)covering it. the sleeve bridges the groove, making it flat again. Bearing companies have them (like Motion Industries, or Kaman Bearing). Jim

(quoted from post at 18:54:42 02/17/20) will I need to take the pump apart to put the sleeve on?

Not being familiar with the pump I can't say but if I could see a good cross-section view I might have an idea. But main thing is you have to be able to remove and install a new seal.

Saying that I would lean towards saying pump would need to be disassembled. Also if you are that close I'd say you would be money ahead knowing the condition of the internals of the pump!
