The tractor on deck looks the be F-20 I have never seen rear wheels like that, looks like rim inside another wheel? of is it just my eyes.

Band on the rear wheels might have been a shipping
band to protect surfaces where the unit was loaded
& unloaded. Probably returned to factory for re-use
by dealers.

Can't quite make out the railroad name on the flat
car. CT&L or CI&L??
Would be good to know where this pic. was taken.
Probably wasn't Rock Island plant.

Loading F20s at Tractor Works on the outskirts of Chicago. The flatcar is Monon/CI&L on Andrews trucks. The Monon Route is CI&L's nickname, adopted as official in the 50's. That photo should have been credited to WHS. Eh, whatever, no one on the net gives a **** about copyrights anymore.

JIM - I checked Tractor-Data, yeah, I know, but it's more accurate than most of the comments Here! F-20& F-30 were only ever built AT FARMALL. A few Regulars were built at BOTH plants, FARMALL and TRACTOR WORKS. BUT, the F-12 or F-14 is what confuses me. The F-12 was ONLY ever built at Tractor Works, and a few F-14's were built at FARMALL. I can't tell the difference between an F-12 and F-14 in those pictures, but I think it's looking more like a picture from FARMALL. If so, I know. EXACTLY where it was.

Oh, you do? Well, lets look at the evidence.

The first image, here, is from the Wisconsin Historical Archive. The low numbered image ID (8173) shows it was listed a while ago, as in the Guy Fay era of cataloging at the archive. Also, pictures don't lie. Those are 10-20s in the picture, dated April 12, 1923. The wall full of windows & overhead crane are the same. Also, the Farmall plant in Rock Island was not built yet.

Next we have A's, B's & crawlers that are painted up for the US Army (image ID 7237). This picture was listed as taken in 1941. It shows the same overhead cranes & craneway as seen in the picture posted above, as well as the one by the original poster. The camera is pointing north. You can see the building, with the same windows, on the right & the main building of the Cook County Dept. of Corrections is off in the distance in the top left area of the photo.

The next photo is a screen grab with my cell phone. The usual GIS page for Chicago no longer has older aerial photos listed. Not going with Historic Aerials for many reasons. I didn't find any way to copy & save the enlarged image, either. The credit goes to the University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago Aerial Photo Services, listed by the CARLI Digital Collections site. It's description is: Chicago Aerial Survey 1938 #6, Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, Kedzie to Hoyne. You can see, near the center of the pic, the shipping dock, craneway, the Tractor Works proper, et alia. The Dept. of Corrections is top left.

If you would like more evidence or have undeniable proof otherwise, I'll be here all day.
