Cute little IH oddity

(quoted from post at 11:50:09 02/12/20) 1/2 of a 304 or 345??

I don't know what size it is.

They made both 152 and 196 engines, half of a 304, and half of a 396, but I don't think they made "half a 345".

The photo I found is without any accompanying info.

Any "experts" out there who can tell the difference from the photo?

(As found on the 'net.)
Those engines were the base engine in the old Scouts. I'll bet most of them got scrapped during the clunker buyback era.

I know a guy that has a 194 in an I-H 1/2
ton short box. I think it's a mid
'60's. It has torsion front suspension,
like Chrysler products of the day. Says
it gets good milage for a pick up.

Not all that odd. My '65 Scout 80 had a 152 cu in 4 cylinder in it, half of a 304 V8.

It was a good engine for me, as long as you kept your speed expectations realistic.

My brother-in-law had a rusted out Scout with a good engine and Jeep pickup with a bad engine. He adapted the Scout engine to the Jeep and drove it for a number of years. Wan't a power house but it got him wherever he wanted to go.

It depends on the year. Some of those Scouts had a 232 AMC engine, and some of those Jeeps had 258 AMC engines. If you get the right years (never happens) it could be a bolt in. Hypothetically speaking, of course. ;)

When I moved to Missouri I had a 1961 IH pickup with the 4 cylinder and a 3 or 4 speed on the floor. If ti could get traction it could pull most any thing as long as you did not want to get there in a hurry

They also offered a turbocharged version of the 152. About the same era as the Corvair and Olds F85 offered one.
