I LIVE IN NEW BRUNSWICK CANADA AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A H OR M WITH THE 9 SPEED TRANNY I HAVE A 44 H AND WAS THINKING ABOUT PUTTING THE 09 SPEE IN MINE IS THERE KIT I CAN BUY FOR THIS AND WHAT DOES IT DO FOR THE SPEED WILL IT RAISE IT LIKE THE SHERMAN KIT FOR THE LITTLE GRAY FORDS

M&W Gear made them back in the fifties. I think they have been out of business since the mid-70's. Probably the only place to find any useful is a salvage yard.

Seen a couple of new old stock for sale in the last 10 years but used is mostly all to be found. M&W also made a cable shift and

lever and rod shift on the right side also. Sppeds were a little different than the heisler one and top speed stayed the same as original on both. bottom picture is M&W.

I just finished putting one in a Farmall M. If you can find one, try to buy the entire rear differential as those gears are meshed in together and you won't or shouldn't have a whine from the transmission. Farmall H's with a 9 speed are few and far between. I've seen one- my Dad's and the guy who now owns it will not sell. A 9 speed really settles the speed drop between 5th and low side 4th because high first is faster then low 4th and on up. Good luck.

Up for a road trip?? Guy in Northeast Nebraska has an H for parts and wants $900 for whole tractor with a 9 speed.

I grew up on a H with a 9 speed made a tractor out of it.Go through 1 2 3 4 then engage over drive then drop back to 1 which will be faster than the low 4 2 will be faster 3 faster 4 faster but no 5 overdrive

I have both a Farmall H and M with a Heisler 9-speed and they certainly make both very useful tractors for what they are generally used for at this time. The Heisler 9 speed also increases the speed of both the PTO and belly pump (and maybe the belt pulley) to higher RPM's then they where designed for. A disconnect was provided for the belly pump so it could be disconnected when using the higher range of speeds. If you are fortunate to locate one you will find your H and M to be much more versatile in how they can be used. Finding one in a Farmall H is certainly going to take some time as they are few and far between it seems when I was looking for one. They seem to be fairly common on the M tractors and believe their initial use was for using a rotary hoe in the corn growing areas of the USA.

Both the M&W and Heisler were another pair of constant mesh gears that are the initial gear reduction in the transmissions, the "overdrive" speeds up the lower transmission shaft & gears creating the 4 new faster speeds between the 5 mph 4th gear and 16 mph 5th gear. 5th gear is a direct drive in H's and M's, no initial reduction, and direct drive from the engine, clutch, and the first reduction is the ring & pinion gears in the differential.

Look closely at the pictures D.Slater posted. You can see the two different pairs of constant mesh gears.
The H was a little under-powered to do much in the faster gears of a 9-speed equipped tractor. Dad's '47 M had a 9-speed, it was his harrowing tractor, we didn't have a rotary hoe, but if he borrowed one that M pulled it, raked hay. 9 speeds increased PTO and belly pump rpm. They were great for hauling in wagons when combining, picking, baling.
