I think he means a single front. They don't have bearings. Just a smooth shaft and bronze bushings.

Some of the John Deere grain drill's that use a single dolly wheel out front, i think,used the pipe also, too keep the bearing apart a certain distance, i know i have seen the pipe concept before!

I found that some of the pivot points in the steering of the little Allis G don't even use bronze bushings. just seel on steel or cast iron. After many years they get really gummy and hard to turn.
