Super C rear engine seal

When spring gets here I need to split my Super C and replace the clutch. I'm also going to replace the rear oil seal while I have everything apart. Question is do I have to remove the oil pan to get the seal
retainer off? Seems like I remember on my H there is a screw hidden by the oil pan.

The answer is Yes.

I know it is Yes on an A or B, and the Super C is the same basic engine.

while you have the tractor split, check the freeze plugs on the back side of the block. there are two and their the disk type, not the cup type. one of mine had a pin hole, put jb weld on it and its still holding.

You "puckied" the rusted-out plug rather than replacing it???

Plug is 2", Dorman #550-028, available for a buck or two at about any auto parts store.

Stealership wants over $20, though! How is that even possible?

Stealership wants over $20, though! How is that even possible?

Considering the work needed to access those plugs and the damage to the engine if one failed at the wrong time with wrong operator running it I would use one of the "factory $20.00" plugs before trying to patch one.

Figure the original one may be over sixty years old so who here is going to be around to worry about replacing the new one put in this year?

Besides if the coolant is changed even every ten years the plug put in this week will probably be still good at the turn of the next century!

don't know where your at, but around here there unheard of. I have to order them. guess its an East Texas thing.

Find it hard to believe that the NAPA dealer in Henderson does not stock them or at the worst can not get them overnight! But then maybe I'm just lucky to have a couple good NAPA dealers near me.

Heck I got all the parts right down to a new coil to rebuild the magneto of my BN last summer and only had to wait for the truck from warehouse to drop the coil off afternoon on the day I called the order in!

yep there are three other parts stores, none have disk freeze plugs...ive checked
