if I heat the pulley to help with installing it, will the ID get bigger or will the expansion make it smaller and harder to install?

If you heat the whole pulley it will get bigger. Ve careful if you do this because if you get it half way on and it sticks you will have a tough time getting it off again.

when i installed the pulley on my cub, i heated it in a deep fryer like a presto fry daddy. it will get it up to about 350 degrees or so.

I've never needed heat to install them, just used a threaded rod with a plate and nut to draw it in.

I just draw em on with a bolt. Just be sure the bore and shaft are clean. Maybe even use some light oil. use a bit of emery cloth if needed.Dont ever remember needing heat.
