F14 1939 Gas or Kerosene Question

I m starting the restoration of a 1939 f14. It s definitely a 1939 after researching the serial number via multiple sources. But I m confused because although it only has a single gas tank, it has a few kerosene features, like a kerosene exhaust manifold (see picture) with a lever to adjust the intake/exhaust. It also has the flaps on the front of the radiator with a lever that the driver can use to open or close them. Unless I m mistaken, both of these were primarily features on kerosene tractors a few years prior to 1939?
I know for a fact this tractor ran on gas since my uncle bought it in 1983, but is it possible that it was originally kerosene?
Also, this exhaust manifold is pretty roached so I was going to try and buy a new one but I can t find it anywhere. Seems like only gas manifolds are available (and even those are out of stock). Maybe a phosphoric acid soaking of this old rusted manifold would suffice?

Hi Dennis

Restored a 1944 farmall H years ago it was set up to start on petrol/gas then switch to kerosene. The manifold is similar to yours as it has different heat settings and the louvers in front of the radiator. When I had the head done they put new
valve seats in and we just run it on petrol/gas. So this should run on that. Surprised you don't have a smaller starting fuel tank for it, but I am not familiar with the F farmalls.

Just speaking from experience with mine, so I could very well be off - That tractor was/is a kerosene tractor. My
theory and research - Gas models had a different manifold, and did not have a 2 lever piece where the rods move, OR
only one rod was there.

Possibilities - the manifold was changed, and rod added for the heat control. Hood could have been changed and the
carb was plumbed without the lines from the starting tank, which I tend to think is what happened.

A new manifold is available, but its still going to have the heat control lever on it, and the rod will not connect
to it.

He could have the right tank if it originally had the small tank n the hood, assuming its not the one with the small tank on the big tank.

Most 14 had small starter tank in the hood was removed at some time because it was only run on gas did not need small tank.
Do not do anything with that manifold it is in great shape you will never find one in as good of shape.
If you want original than start looking for hood small tank and all the plumbing for the fuel lines. Good luck.

Late entry to this discussion mention of the carburetor reminded me. If it has a factory carburetor for kerosene, the circular brass tag riveted onto it should carry part number 29954 DB for tractors from FS 96302.
