Hi guys and gals, I?m working on removing a 9 speed setup from a M. It also has the lever setup on the belly pump. I?m not as familiar with these. As you can see in the photo I attached, that I removed the lever and bolts on the pump but there is this circle piece that must slide back and forth ( it really doesn?t want too). It seems this is the only piece possibly holding me back from the pump dropping out. Any info on what my next step should be would be appreciated without damaging the parts.

If I remember correctly, that connector is in two pieces; one piece is a key
that is held in by a cotter pin. Remove the cotter pin and the key slides out.
You will need to rotate the transmission counter shaft to find where it comes apart.

That coupling looks to be lever operated to engage and disengage pump. I would say you will have to move it one way or the other to totally disengage from one of the shafts. For sure it is not original coupling or even the after market two piece one with a cotter key .

Have you removed the three pressure outlet pipes , two on one side, one on other. That is unless someone has modified or plugged them outlets.

WHen running the 9 speed, the overdrive causes the pump to run way beyond its design speed. SO the coupler you are looking at is so that the pump can
be disconnected when in overdrive. Sliding the collar toward the pump (neutral I think) should allow a view of taking it apart. The drive splines need
to be replaced with a very short couppler OEM if you want it to be original, or leave it as is to drive the pump as needed. With the 9 speed gone, you
will still need the pump. Jim

Pete, yes all pipe fittings have been removed. I put some pressure on that circle to push it over toward the pump but it does not want to move easily. Afraid it may break. Appears to be a die cast metal.

See you unbolted the shift linkage by the two bolts removed. Collar needs to slide to pump side if I remember correct. Would put bolts back in hydraulic unit to line shafts back up, spray something on splines to remove dirt and then to slick up. Then with transmission in neutral and pto in gear get someone to turn pto shaft to get splines lined up then try prying collar to pump, prying on both sides of collar at the same time. If spines are already locked together, need to get collar moved. Splines take the same place as the original slotted drive nuts. Right hand threads.

Dicast would fail in a few hours in that location. Probably powdered metqalurgy. A forming process. There is a snap ring ((I think) that I see on the splines it might need to be removed to slide the coupler far enough. Juice it up and wiggle it before sliding. Jim

Have to admit that I have never seen one of those nine speed attachments from below. I seem to remember a couple but was working on some other unrelated part of the tractor.

You have some good replies from a couple guys who are familiar with them though. Had many M's and H's apart starting back in 1958 but not one nine speed.

are you sure its an M&W 9 speed?
I currently have on H with an M&W and owned an M with a 9 speed they did not have this coupling but that don't necessarily mean anything
here is an ad for a Heisler coupling

The outside lever on the nine speed says M&W but the lever like
your showing there doesn?t have anything printed on it. It could be
both companies? The photo you show sure likes like what I have.
I?m removing the one now from a M but have a H here that is setup
the same way. First ones I?ve seen this way.

I would guess its entirely possible to have a Heisler coupler and an M&W 9 speed. I am no expert on these companies and have began collecting literature and info on them , very interesting to me!
