1967 706 with the D310 engine. I have two questions.

This is my first time here, I just joined. Also, I am not a farmer, I bought this tractor two years ago for use on my property.

1 - Is there a gasket or any component at all that goes between the top of the ether can and the inside/underside of the casting? The ether injector used to work but it doesn't anymore and I am wondering if I lost something when I changed ether cans.

2 - Does anyone know where I can get an injector line for the #1 cylinder of this D310 engine or even a whole set if that's how they come?

Thank you for your help.

I believe there is a rubber washer that the can goes up against. Youmay be able to find your inj. line at a salvage yard.

Well, I wrote that I am not a farmer which is true, but I do help out my girlfriend's family on the weekends. They are crop farmers. So I do have experience starting an H, a 460, a 656, their D282 706, a Hydro, and a 1066. You're right, my 706 doesn't have glow plugs and starts at the lowest throttle position all the time and without ether in the summer. It runs really well although I am told it would run better if the #1 injection line were replaced with a legit steel line instead of the small hydraulic hose that is there. Am I missing anything?

First off get rid of the ether injector. That engine doesn't need it. Plug the intake port with a pipe plug. What's wrong with the line? If it is just a rubbed hole,it can be brazed shut.As said, one of the many salvage yards will have one.

I bought this tractor used a couple of years ago, it needed all kinds of work, except that the tires were new! Anyway, the #1 cylinder injection line had been replaced with a small hydraulic line, the original did not come with the tractor, so I can't do anything about that. I already sent an email to the Bates company as suggested asking if they have one.

Are you are having trouble starting? Are you using the 'fuel dump'? Simply pull the shutoff cable out about half way till you feel resistance. You know the point where the engine speeds up when you pull it out slow?Hold it at this halfway position while you crank the engine. It will start immediately. Even at 32 degrees(both of my germans do).Push back in when the rpm starts to rise.

The fuel dump simply gives it an excessive amount of fuel for starting porposes.Somehow it blocks off the return flow. I think it also advances timimg a fuzz too,but not sure about that.

It's not a "fuel dump", but an excess fuel feature used for cold starts only, has nothing to do with fuel return. The speeds advance timing stays at full retard also whether the excess fuel/cold start setting is used or not. A GOOD injection pump will usually start with the stop/start/run lever fully forward, but any wear in the hydraulic head the start position must be used. The Bosch AR/BR versions have angled injector line outlets, CR has straight outlets. Take GOOD CARE of the fuel/filter system as there are NO hard parts available for the VA series anymore. They can be replaced with the mechanical governed Bosch VE like later IH Neuss engines went to, catch is finding one..

I called Messick's about this and they checked all of their sources and apparently there are no injection lines for the D310 engine to be found anywhere in the United States.

You can buy a set of new lines (unbent) for about $300, from Wimers Fuel injetction and maybe a few others.
I may have a full set of D358 Injector lines if I can find them all, I am not sure if I remember which one was the #1 injector line just by looking at them. This engine had the bosch VE pump, but I think it will still fit if yours has the BR pump. I swapped an A-Pump onto it and bought new lines for it.

Thank you for this information. I am not sure which pump my engine has. I am also going on vacation tomorrow. I'll check the pump when I return and reply to you again.

For parts on my German diesel, I got to the local Case/IH dealer. They get me most of what I need.

As for the either. We bought ours new, and its never had either. My either fixture still has the factory metal cover or plug that came in it.

I finally got around to taking a photo of the injector pump. You can see that the one line in question has been replaced with a small hydraulic line. Can you tell me what kind of pump it is? Thank you.

Pump is the Robert Bosch VA rotary, CR latest version. The earlier AR and BR versions had angled outlets, CR has straight injector line outlets. All have been replaced with Bosch VE mechanical governed pump.

The lines I have will fit that pump. I was cleaning up the other day and found at least 3 of them. The D358 is a little taller than the 310, so the lines may be slightly longer, but I wouldn't think by much if any. It would definitely be an improvement over the hydraulic line that you have there now. I may have all 6, but I was trying to organize so I could fit another tractor in my garage and didn't stop to see how many were in the box.

Let me see how many I have when I get home from work and I will get back to you. I would rather you have all 6 if I can find them, so they are all matched in length, Although even one would be an improvement over the hydraulic line on there now.

I found all 6, so it would be best to put the whole set on if you can, although I am not sure there is really any length difference between the two. I would replace them one at a time if you go that route. You can also just replace them one for a marked improvement over that current line.
If you cover shipping I will just send them to you, it will probably be around $20-$25 because the size and you don't want to bend them up.

Let me know if you want these. If not I am going to put them back up in the attic of the garage. If someone can get some use out of them, I hate for them to go to waste or get damaged.

Hello! I am so sorry for the delay. I apparently missed the email notification that you responded.

Anyway, I will take them! If you have a FedEx store nearby, you can ship them from there using my FedEx account number.

I can pay immediately with PayPal if you would like or I can send a money order or check or whatever works best for you.

Again, I apologize for the delay.

I was just cleaning up in the garage yesterday when I saw these lines again and wondered in you still wanted them. I guess I missed this reply, I did not have email notifications turned on so I never got notified, but I do now. Message back if you want them and we can try to figure out a way for you to get me your info without posting it out in the open. You may be able to email me through the classic version.

Hello again! Yes I still want them. Thank you for staying with this.

Are you able to receive payment through PayPal?

OK!

I can send payment for GOODS to you by PayPal. If you can ship by FedEx using my account, that would be good and I'll get you the account number later. If that's not convenient for you, then ship them however you want and I'll pay for that too.

You can send your email address for the PayPal transaction to me at [email protected].

Thank you!
