IHC 300 pto help

Hello,

I have an old IHC 300 utility tractor (new to me) and with this it has a front end loader but no 3 point or pto. Im looking to put a pto in it but i don't necessarily know where to start on it. If someone could point me to some parts or general tips on what ill be doing and where i should go to get parts that would be appreciated. If wanted i will get some pics of the rear end tomorrow if i remember too.

Really need to know what letter or letters follow the tractor serial before knowing what type PTO it can take at present and what
parts are needed for type PTO wanted.

As D Slater indicates, there are 2 options and they are not interchangeable. A 300U with a working TA (handle on the left side for a reduction/direct
drive with no foot clutch used to shift is more likely to be able to have a Live PTO installed because the shafts are in place to drive the PTO from the
engine, not the transmission. (I think it is a J following the serial number (suffix) if no TA and no J I think it can be equipped with a transmission
driven PTO that stops when the foot clutch is pushed down (not live PTO) There are far more Live PTO Utility tractors than those with Trans driven PTOs
and thus a trans driven PTO might be harder to find. To put a Live PTO in a trans driven tractor is easiest by replacing the entire rear 1/2 of the
tractor with the back 1/2 of a "J" tractor. But the question remains, what do you have? Jim

I got a neighbor kid, he bought a 300, utility to make some hay, around his acreage,it's got a R on the end of Serial number,he is so disapointed he could cry !

You would be better off to buy a tractor with pto already in it. My brother in law did that very thing several years ago.Turned into a much larger job than expected.

That's a casting number suffix posted. May be hard to see but look to rear of tractor from the engine oil filter. On the housing
where the clutch would be inside find a rectangular metal plat with 4 rivets holding it on. My not have any paint left but will
have a serial number stamped in and a letter or letters stamped in following the serial number.

Bad news think the only kind of PTO that will work is one that stops whenever the transmission counter shaft stops. Will only turn
with gear shift in neutral when setting still. Stops when ever wheels does when in gear. If you want independent PTO a donor
tractor or transmission and center housing would probably work the best. J stands for equipped with a rockford clutch.

You could put a PTO unit like this in and use a overrunning coupling on the PTO shaft. No other work would be needed. If I can get
it on a picture of your transmission. Picture of one without a T/A and with IPTO. Picture of a T/A unit that sits in the center
housing if equipped. Your center housing is dry with just a shaft from clutch passing through unless a leak comes from the
transmission input shaft.
