The 706 lost all hydraulic functions, power steering lift arms PTO. Any thoughts or experiences is appreciated in regards to diagnosing and troubleshooting to get me going in the right direction.

Is it cold were you are? My 560 did the same thing. To much water in the oil. Froze everything up. When it finally thawed out i had to change the filter and trany fluid.

Most likely the pto drive in the center of the pressure plate is stripped out.did you hear a grinding sound when it quit? The pto drive runs the hydralic pumps in those tractors. Common problem on those older IH tractors. A split will be required to fix. Will require (at minimum) a clutch and the pto drive gear. Or,If the tractor is sitting in cold below freezeing temps, ice crystals could be plugging the filter.Do the easy first. Change hydralic filter and see if hydraulics return. If not, time to split it.

No not too cold this happened all of the sudden during haying in July I switched the tractor and moved on I am just thinking of a plan now that I have some time ha. It's cold enough here now thou Nova Scotia, Canada.

It's a common problem for them to loose there prime at any temp. Especially if they've been sitting awhile. Make sure hyd oil is full on dip stick or slightly over. It's possible it might help to have it parked with front end lower and you could try putting compressed air in dipstick hole with it running while you play with it.

A quick easy check is to completely remove the filter. If it works, you know the pto drive is intact. If it's been a while since the filter was changed, the issue could possibly be just a dirty filter, compounded by cold thick oil.

Agreed. PTO drive.

You should be able to pull the inspection cover underneath and look up in to see the carnage. With the tractor running you will probably see the tube that sticks into the pressure plate isn't turning, or stops turning when you try any steering or hydraulic function.

This will require a bell housing split to repair.

If the PTO drive were intact, you wouldn't lose PTO, as it has its own internal pump separate from the rest of the tractor.

Like Barnyard and Delta said split time. The Look up in where the clutch cover is, and see if the shaft at the rear is turning. Dollar to a donut it is not. Not a bad job if you have a few tools and a place inside to do it. Change the Clutch, pressure plate, and the drive gear, in the front of the transmission. You will need to know if you have a TA or not for the correct shaft/ gear in the transmission. There is a brass bushing in there you will need if you don't have a TA. When removing that cover in the front of the transmission be careful not to break the flange lip off the piece prying it out. There is an o-ring on the edge of it that makes it tight and hard to get out. replace the o-ring while it is out. I would also change the pilot bearing in the back of the crank while there. I just did my 806 this summer /fall. I think I got the clutch kit for about $250. Included everything except the trans gear and o-ring. To piece it was more than that and still had to add the other parts in to it.
