Farmall will not start with starter

My farmall M turns over with starter very well but will not fire at all. Put a chain on it and pull it will start and run fine on the first pop. What gives?

Poor cables and corroded ends can make that happen. Battery voltage can often crank OK but reduce the net voltage to the ignition low enough
that the spark does not jump across the spark plug gaps A poor connection at the ignition switch, or poor ignition switch contacts can also do
it. With the engine not running, and switch on, with a volt meter, check the voltage at the coil terminal connected to the switch. if still 6v
(assumes 6volt battery) it should read close to battery voltage. and not lower than 6v. If lower, there is excess resistance in the switch or
wires. If 12volt battery we need to know if it has a ballast resistor in front of the coil.) If a resistor, the voltage coming into the
resistor should be 12.3 or more. leaving the resistor, about 6 volts. The opposite side probably reads zero voltage. if the points are closed.

I owned a Super M that exhibited that same symptom. It had been converted to 12 volts. The issue was that it had been wired improperly and NO electricity could go to the ignition until the starter disengaged. ALL of the electricity was going to the starter. I don't remember exactly what I did to cure it, but it involved connecting the ignition wire to a different source.
