444 International

My 444 IH gas engine has started smoking bad. Grey smoke. Looks on the dip stick to be 2 to 3 quarts over full. No bubbles appear on dip stick. Did it blow a head gasket? What would be the most probable cause? Don't have a clue. Motor starts. But I don't want to run it like this. HELP

Thanks

Jerry

Very simple trouble shoot it don't guess and don't run it til you know what is going on.
#1 does the oil smell like gas?? Can you take the dip stick and light the gas real easy. Step away from the tractor to do the light it test so as not to catch the tractor on fire if it is gas in the oil.
#2 loosen the oil drain plug to the point it starts to drip. When it starts to drip is it coolant?? As in green i color??
#3 Pull the plug out and see if any if them look like they have been washed

Post back what you find

After it has sat at least overnight, slowly loosen the engine oil drain plug until it starts to drip.

If water/coolant has entered the crankcase it will have settled to the bottom and be the first to drip out.

If no coolant in the oil, the additional fluid in the crankcase is either gasoline or hydraulic fluid. (The hydraulic pump is driven from the timing gears and if the pump seal fails, hydraulic oil can leak into the crankcase.)

On the other hand, if that much gasoline is in the oil it should have a very distinct gasoline smell.
